Kwon Hyuk-bin: Tycoon to pay ex-wife $1.87bn in record South Korea divorce settlement

A South Korean court has ordered gaming tycoon Kwon Hyuk-bin to pay his ex-wife Lee Hwa-jin a record 2.55 trillion won ($1.87 billion) in assets, making it the largest divorce settlement in the country's history. Kwon, founder of Smilegate, was also instructed to transfer a 35% stake in the company to Lee, valued at approximately 2.5 trillion won, and to pay her an additional 65 billion won in cash. This settlement surpasses the previous record of 944 billion won, awarded to tech titan Chey Tae-won, which was later deemed a miscalculation by the Supreme Court.
