Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch criticized Royal Moroccan Football Federation President Fouzi Lekjaa for prematurely announcing that the 2030 World Cup final would take place in Casablanca, as FIFA has yet to confirm host locations. Akhannouch emphasized the need for respect in discussing such significant decisions and warned against using electoral promises that could undermine collaboration with cohosting nations Spain and Portugal. The proposed 115,000-seat stadium in Morocco is currently about 30% complete, with hopes to finish by the end of 2027, while FIFA previously announced the 2026 final location only six months after its decision.
FIFA has clarified that it has not yet made a decision regarding the host of the 2030 World Cup final, responding to claims from the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation that Morocco would host it. Morocco will co-host the tournament with Spain and Portugal, marking the second time an African nation will hold World Cup final games, the first being South Africa in 2010. The city of Benslimane and its 115,000-seat King Hassan II Stadium are proposed as the venue, although FIFA stated that an official host will be determined "in due course."
